MonteCryptos is a BTC-friendly, mobile-ready online casino that launched in 2018. It is owned by a company known as Mountberg Limited Casinos, an established creator that we haven’t encountered very often here at Coinbuzz. In fact, at the time of writing, it seems like there are close to a dozen casinos operating under this brand and we have yet to review any of them.

…a BTC-friendly, mobile-ready online casino that launched in 2018

In our defence, we have reviewed hundreds of others, and we’re still working our way through a never-ending and ever-growing list!

Initially, we assumed MonteCryptos Casino was named after Monte Carlo in Monaco, as opposed to the Monte Cristo sandwich. Both are impressive and bad for you (one for your wallet, the other for your heart) but while we have seen some strange casino themes in our time (including one themed around a make-belief gambling kingdom) we’ve yet to encounter one based on a sandwich.

As it happens, it seems that MonteCryptos is based on Count Monte Cristo, a famed story of revenge penned by Alexandre Dumas. It even has its very own version of the story’s main character, and it makes for an interesting take on a classic tale.

Basics

MonteCryptos is one of those casinos that impressed and disappointed us in equal measures and it all begins with the layout of the site.

It would be fair to say that MonteCryptos is not a well-known site and it’s never going to be ranked up there with the likes of Fortune Jack and other top dogs. In fact, it was nowhere on our list of priorities, so when we first approached the site for this review, we expected to see something that was poorly made and shoddily designed.

We were surprised to discover that the casino actually has a fairly decent design, one that has clearly had some time and money invested in it.

One of our pet hates is casinos that insist on pop-up sidebars and hamburger icons, features that are usually reserved for mobile casinos, being used on desktop sites. We also hate it when sites are too cluttered. MonteCryptos Casino doesn’t suffer from any of those issues and creates a very simple aesthetic that is easy to navigate.

So, what’s our issue with the site? Well, while simplicity is key, it’s also important to inform your website visitors and prevent them from getting frustrated, and this is where MonteCryptos Casino fell flat.

As part of our initial review process, we check to see whether a site accepts cryptocurrencies and also look at the Terms and Conditions. Only then do we think about joining and look toward the rest of the review.

But we couldn’t do this with MonteCryptos, as neither the Payment Methods section or the Terms and Conditions actually opened. We tried this from multiple locations (using a VPN) and two different platforms, and we had the same issue.

Maybe we caught the site at a bad time, but this is 2021, and there is no excuse for broken links or pages that timeout. You could argue that this was because we hadn’t signed up at the time, and to be fair, the pages did load once we had an account. But if so, that begs the question, why can’t prospective players see the Terms and Conditions or Payment Options?

You would not expect someone to buy from a retail store if they don’t know what payment methods are accepted, how long delivery will take, or even how much shipping will cost, and it’s the same story here. You need those pages to learn about deposit methods, withdrawal times/fees, and other essential terms.

Games

Microgaming is one of the biggest names in the MonteCryptos games room, and it gets more than a passing mention and a few cherry-picked titles. Far too many modern casinos have Microgaming listed in their games room but neglect to offer any of the developer’s progressive jackpot slots.

It’s frustrating, as titles like Mega Moolah are what Microgaming is famous for and they are some of the best games in the world.

MonteCryptos doesn’t make this mistake and it actually has Mega Moolah, as well as a few variations of this game. You’ll also find Major Millions, another massively popular and potentially life-changing Microgaming progressive jackpot slot.

Other big developers available here include the excellent Blueprint Gaming, Betsoft Gaming, NetEnt, Habanero, Yggdrasil, Pragmatic Play, and more. It’s a great selection of developers and one that spans over 3,000 games in total, including popular slots like La Fiesta, Book of Dead, Eye of Horus, Gold of Ra, Sticky Bandits, Butterfly Staxx 2, Narcos, and Wolf Hunters, to name just a few.

MonteCryptos also has a Live Casino section and this is packed with a host of top titles by developers like VIVO Gaming and Relax Gaming. Just click the Live Casino link in the sidebar to access these games.

It’s worth noting, however, that some games may be restricted in your region due to regulation and licensing issues. As a result, you may not see the same long list of games as everyone else. It could also explain why Evolution Gaming is often listed as a developer for MonteCryptos, yet we can’t find any Evolution titles when we access the site from Canada.

All games are available on desktop, as well as mobile, and MonteCryptos has support for a multitude of platforms and devices.

Bonuses

The MonteCryptos Welcome Bonus is acceptable when compared to some smaller CA non-crypto casinos, but for a BTC casino competing with monster sites like Bitstarz it’s disappointing. It offers a maximum of $240 in the form of a 120% matched deposit bonus.

While it’s not the biggest, it is okay for small stake players but it is far from perfect as the Terms and Conditions are quite poor.

Firstly, there is a wagering requirement of 35x that applies to both the deposit and bonus amount. That can add up to a substantial sum when you consider that the bonus offers 120%. Secondly, table games and Live Casino games account for just 5% of these requirements. These games don’t usually count for a lot, but 5% is still on the low side.

Last but not least, if you dig through the General Bonus Terms and Conditions you’ll find a term that applies a maximum win of 10x to all bonus winnings and notes that anything above this amount will be removed.

So, let’s put that into perspective.

If you deposit $100, you’ll get a total of $220 and will need to clear $7,700 in total before the money can be withdrawn. You will also be subject to a maximum win of $1,000, as this applies to the deposit alone.

So, let’s suppose that you’re lucky enough to turn that $220 into $10,000 and this drops to $5,000 by the time you meet the wagering requirements. You will instantly lose $4,000 of that money and can withdraw just $1,000.

Free money is free money, but many players (ourselves included) like these bonuses because they have a free chance to scoop a jackpot or walk away with a huge sum of money, and that’s just not possible here. Also, while you might think, “$900 profit is still great”, we challenge you to have the same thought when you’ve just watched $4,000 disappear from your balance!

Bonus credits or not, that’s still hard to take.

Payment Options

You need to deposit a minimum of €10 (or the equivalent in your chosen currency) at MonteCryptos and there is a minimum withdrawal equivalent to €25. It’s average, which is good, especially when you compare it to relatively poor (by comparison) sites like Casino Intense.

Accepted deposit methods include Bitcoin, Litecoin, Trustly, Skrill, Visa, and a great deal more. Players from Canada are also invited to use Interac, which is hugely popular in the country.

There are no fees and it’s good to see such a varied range of methods, especially when it includes both fiat currency methods and cryptocurrency options. However, and here’s the kicker, MonteCryptos is very slow at processing withdrawals.

On average, the pending time takes several days, which means it could be a week before you get your winnings if you use a method like a Visa or Mastercard debit card.

There is really no excuse for an online casino to take that long. MonteCryptos was launched in 2018, for Christ sake! It shouldn’t be sitting on player payments for several days, not when most of its competitors process them in just a few minutes.

Limits

Here we are again: writing an online casino review and preparing to talk about withdrawal limits.

There are a disappointing number of online casinos with incredibly low withdrawal limits and MonteCryptos is another name to add to that growing list.

As a Bitcoin player, you are limited to just 300 mBTC per week and this increases to 700 mBTC per month. If you’re playing in Euros or Dollars, that’s €/$2,000 per week or €/$5,000 per month.

To put that into perspective, we have spent months complaining about Araxio online casinos like Buran, noting how they have a fixed withdrawal limit of just €10,000. It’s bad, and it has infuriated us in the past, but it’s twice the size of the limit at MonteCryptos!

As always, it’s not something that will impact small stake players but it will start to be a concern for medium stakers and will be a massive issue for high rollers.

For instance, if you deposit just €200 a week, that’s €800 a month. If you’re lucky enough to scoop a 10x win over the course of that month, an amount that any lifelong gambler has won, you’ll have a total of €8,000, which means you’ll hit that withdrawal limit.

Some people deposit that amount of money and still consider themselves to be small stake players and yet they will fall foul of this limit.

Reviews and Support

There are a number of user reviews out there and these give you some insight into the site from the perspective of its many players. It’s important to take them with a pinch of salt, however, and to make sure you focus on what’s important.

For example, many user reviews complain about things that are not the casino’s fault or make ridiculous claims that the casino has very little control over. If you dig through these, and sort the wheat from the chaff, you’ll find some genuine complaints regarding the site’s bonus terms and verification issues.

They complain that the site takes too long to process verification documents and argue that the bonuses are too complicated. They note, for instance, that the wagering requirements are far too high and that win limits apply, which is something we also mentioned.

It’s frustrating, but it’s something you can learn before you join up and collect.

Once you discount these relatively minor issues, there are some genuinely intriguing reviews highlighting many good things about the site. It should also be noted that MonteCryptos goes to great pains to respond to all user reviews, which we always like to see.

It’s something we have mentioned before in reviews like Sapphire Bet Casino, noting how it shows the site is willing to do what it takes to keep current players happy while putting on a good show for prospective ones.

Final Word

MonteCryptos is an average online casino that has a chance to be great but makes too many mistakes. It lacks a basic polish, with pages that take too long to load and technical issues that occasionally make for a frustrating experience.

On top of this, it has some frustrating bonus terms and a ridiculously low withdrawal limit. All of these things are bad, but they’re not enough to make this a wholly negative site.

We still enjoyed our time with MonteCryptos, as the site has some good promotions, a variety of payment options, and a massive number of slots and table games. It’s certainly not without its flaws, but if you’re a small stake player, we recommend taking a look.
