Lamassu ATMs Will Add Support Fees

Leader in ATM market share (with approx. 33% of worldwide Bitcoin ATMs, followed by RoboCoin with 16%), Lamassu, announced that they would have to stop providing free support for sold units since their current framework is “unsustainable”.

“Up until this point, we were just giving out support for free, and it’s something that’s just not sustainable. We can’t give full support for free, and it was something that was never included in the price of the machine.”

Post-sales support isn’t mandatory of course, but new owners are very likely to require it. The new fees will be structured as follows per number of machines:

  • 1-4 = $100 per unit
  • 5-9 = $90 per unit
  • +10 = $80 per unit

The general consensus seems to be positive concerning the quality of their support service; at this point there’s no specific data to show the average income of ATM operators in order to compare it to the fees.

This is the latest in an array of moves by Lamassu to re-structure their business model and increase cash flow, on top of reducing their number of employees. The paid system is expected to launch early June.
